The Opportunity + Role:

H+M is looking for an Account Director to join our dynamic team of professionals who seek to enable our clients to say the right thing, to the right audiences, in the right ways via the right mix of public relations channels in order to achieve the best, most optimal results. The individual who steps into this role should be a seasoned PR professional with varied expertise across such key disciplines as strategic planning and execution, team mentorship and management, client relations and counsel, messaging and content development, media approach and outreach, integrated marketing communications, corporate and executive positioning, and more. This individual will be responsible for actively leading and managing several account teams across the entertainment and lifestyle sectors. They will play a key role in not just setting the strategic road map for our clients and working to help ensure we deliver meaningful results and outcomes, but also maintaining and enhancing the special culture of teamwork and collaboration that has made H+M a special place for people to come together and work - and have fun, too.

The Account Director will play a key role in several long-standing and just-beginning client relationships at H+M, many of which are in the entertainment and lifestyle space .

The individual who steps into this role will work remotely from their home office in Los Angeles or Miami. Additionally, they will be required to regularly support and staff local events like movie premieres, press junkets, film screenings, celebrity meet and greets, influencer activations, and more - often at night and on the weekend, and sometimes on holidays.

Core Responsibilities:

This is an opportunity for a creative, curious, and highly motivated candidate to take on a leadership role with a dynamic team of diverse, knowledgeable and passionate communications professionals. Core responsibilities expected for this position include (but are not limited to) the ones listed below.

  • Provide senior-level account and program-specific planning and supervision for designated clients.
  • Employ advanced writing skills and review (and also help guide) the writing of others. Demonstrate proficiency in writing and editing materials including strategic plans, messaging, press releases, reports, and other correspondence.
  • Lead high-level media relations by leveraging existing relationships, developing senior press relationships, and managing contacts, with a focus on multicultural audiences.
  • Deliver strategic, engaging, and persuasive presentations to effectively articulate ideas to clients, colleagues, and others.
  • Counsel and work with a variety of clients to develop unique narratives to clarify their value proposition and align their corporate, executive, and/or brand story with the news cycle.
  • Frequently advise and engage clients based on the external environment and their business goals, and take immediate action on client feedback.
  • Serve as a strategic liaison among client, account team, and agency management, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of clients’ businesses and an ability to anticipate and address client needs.
  • Lead the execution of programs developed and sold in through the planning phase; and motivate team members by promptly reviewing work and providing constructive feedback.
  • Lead staff by mentoring, motivating, coaching, consistently providing feedback, holding them accountable and conducting their reviews, and overseeing their professional development.
  • Help lead operational and financial performance of account teams, ensuring quality work, effective processes, and that client requests are handled in a timely and strategic fashion.
  • Staff events like movie premieres, press junkets, film screenings, celebrity meet and greets, influencer activations, and more - often at night and on the weekend, and sometimes on holidays.
  • Manage account finances including accurate budget creation, allocation, and control; ensure budgets are accurate when presented to clients, manage our scope of work to those budgets and the budget tracker to ensure we stay on track.

Requirements:

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the below requirements.

  • Exemplifies excellent written and verbal communications skills , and is fluent in English and Spanish , and can seamlessly and effectively write and speak in both languages with clients, media, and others.
  • Worked in the public relations industry for at least seven years , with a majority of that time spent working on national and regional campaigns for global brands, entertainment properties and/or emerging businesses while at a public relations agency.
  • Acutely understands how to reach and engage a multicultural audience , with an emphasis on Hispanics , via public relations, and has a proven track record and experience in integrated and strategic communications across the entire paid, earned, shared, and owned spectrum.
  • Has a strong passion for public relations , and thrives on finding and securing earned media hits for clients.
  • Based in Los Angeles or Miami and is able to staff and support in-person events on a regular basis at night, on weekends, and on holidays, if needed.
  • Earned a Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, English, or a related field of study from an accredited institution.
