Job summary

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Public Information Act Compliance Supervisor within the Legal Division to oversee the Open Records Unit. You will supervise ORU staff handling requests under the Texas Public Information Act, ensure timely responses, and coordinate with divisions to locate and review records.

This role requires advanced knowledge of open-government laws, meticulous redaction, and the ability to guide staff through complex requests while maintaining confidentiality

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with five years’ public information experience and independent decision authority.
• Two years as a licensed attorney handling public information requests in government or compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the daily operations of the Open Records Unit within the Legal Division.
• Supervise ORU staff handling intake, review, redaction, and responses to PIA requests.
• Review staff work for accuracy, legal sensitivity, and timeliness against deadlines.
• Coordinate with internal divisions to locate responsive records and ensure proper documentation.
• Provide training and quality control on intake, tracking, redaction, and release procedures.
• Draft or approve correspondence to requestors, cost estimates, and status updates.
