Job summary

Department of Transportation in New York City seeks a City Planner to lead capital street projects with pedestrian-friendly enhancements, shared streets, and plazas. You will coordinate with DOT divisions and external partners, develop funding strategies, and deliver designs that balance bicycle facilities with pedestrian safety.

Reporting to the Director of Public Realm Design, you will help shape the citywide public realm, engage communities, and ensure compliance with NYC DOT standards while

Qualifications

• Master's degree in city planning or related field.
• Bachelor's degree with 1 year of city planning experience.
• Combination of education and experience substituting for degree as allowed.
• To place at Assignment Level III, two additional years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise junior to mid-level staff and manage multiple projects.
• Oversee capital portfolio tracking and funding requests.
• Prepare grant applications and outreach plans for stakeholders.
• Present planning initiatives to senior leadership and communities.
• Coordinate with DOT divisions and external agencies for design consistency.
• Conduct site visits and verify conditions for informed design decisions.
• Produce design presentations and graphics for meetings.
• Ensure designs comply with AASHTO and MUTCD standards.
• Support training and technical development of staff.
