Job summary

Alliance Defending Freedom in Dallas, TX and Lansdowne, VA seeks a Legal Counsel, Public Policy to help shape free speech and censorship policy. You will draft legislation, track federal and state bills, and work with internal experts to prepare analyses and summaries. Significant travel and public testimony are expected.

The role requires a J.D. and active bar admission, with experience in policy advocacy and legislative work at the federal or state level.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and ability to satisfy admission requirements in a U.S. jurisdiction within one year.
• 1+ years of public policy advocacy or legislative work at federal or state level.

Responsibilities

• Draft legislation and policies on free speech and censorship.
• Review and track a broad federal/state legislative portfolio.
• Develop analyses, position papers, and summaries with subject-matter experts.
• Travel extensively to meet legislators and policy groups (travel often >50% per month).
• Provide in-person and virtual testimony on proposed legislation.
• Collaborate with government allies and external partners.
