Job summary

The City of Newark, California, is seeking a motivated Permit Technician to join its Building Division. You will provide technical support and customer service to the public, contractors, and developers with building permit applications, processing at the front counter, by phone, and by correspondence.

You will calculate and collect fees, issue over-the-counter permits, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while supporting development projects from small residential

Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of increasingly responsible support experience with a public agency.
• Ability to travel independently within and outside city limits.
• Building Permit Technician certification from ICC within the probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Process applications at the front counter, over the phone, and via correspondence.
• Calculate and collect permit fees.
