Job summary

The City of Newark is seeking a motivated Permit Technician to join the Building Division. This role provides essential technical support and customer service to the public, contractors, and developers with permit applications.

Responsibilities include processing applications at the front counter, calculating and collecting fees, issuing permits, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Travel within city limits may be required as part of the role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of public agency support experience with building inspection/planning/engineering or equivalent public contact.
• Ability to travel independently within and outside City limits.
• Possession of ICC Building Permit Technician certification during probation and throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Processing applications at the front counter, over the phone, and via correspondence.
• Calculating and collecting permit fees.
• Issuing over-the-counter permits.
• Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
