Job summary

Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield’s Public Library, is seeking a part-time Library Assistant II to provide service at the Circulation desk. The role involves four hours weekly (Saturdays, 1-5pm) with potential cross-training for other shifts and departments.

Responsibilities include desk coverage, overdue/lost list preparation, program support, and instruction in library systems such as catalog, holds, wifi, and computer services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; some college or technical coursework preferred or 1 year related experience or equivalent.
• Computer skills: mouse, touchpad, basic internet searching, logging in, saving, printing.
• Familiarity with library online catalog and basic circulation functions or willingness to be trained.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills; patience with children and general public.

Responsibilities

• Provide public desk coverage and assist users with reference questions of low to moderate complexity.
• Prepare overdue and lost lists for mailing.
• Assist with program planning and execution.
• Instruct users in the public computer reservation system, printing system, scanning service, catalog searches, and holds.
• Assist users with accessing the library wifi and searching the online catalog.
