Job summary

Democracy Forward Foundation is seeking first- and second-year law students for a paid, full-time summer internship in Washington, DC. The role supports attorneys in litigation and regulatory work, with in-office collaboration 2–3 days per week from May 27, 2027 to July 30, 2027.

Applicants should be enrolled in an accredited law school and show an interest in public-interest litigation, democracy, and social progress.

Qualifications

• First or second year law student currently enrolled in an accredited law school.
• Interest in public interest litigation in a variety of subject areas.
• Demonstrated commitment to democracy and social progress.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and drive forward work under tight deadlines.
• Well-developed collaborative and interpersonal skills with diverse backgrounds.
• Experience or eagerness to work in a nonprofit, mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities

• Assist Democracy Forward Foundation attorneys in representing clients in federal/state courts and before agencies; help develop strategy and identify risks/opportunities.
• Perform legal research and draft legal documents, including briefs, motions, comments, filings.
• Assist in preparing for arguments, hearings, and court appearances.
• Monitor and screen cases and discuss litigation or regulatory advocacy opportunities.
• Contribute to strategic discussions regarding Democracy Forward’s work.
• Participate in meetings with clients including nonprofits, unions, local governments, and other entities.
