Job summary

Democracy Forward Foundation is seeking a Strategic Initiatives Intern for Spring 2027. This part-time role (10 hours/week) in Washington, DC with remote flexibility supports monitoring policy and legal developments, identifying engagement opportunities, and producing memos, reports, and public-facing content.

You will assist with research, analysis, and coordination across departments to support pro-democracy work and stakeholder engagement in state and national matters.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited law school or master’s degree program with graduation date on or after May 2027.
• Demonstrated excellence in research and writing tasks in a professional and timely manner.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
• High motivation and ability to work independently.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Collaborative and interpersonal skills across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Experience or eagerness to work in a nonprofit, mission-driven setting.
• Experience with legal tools (Westlaw, DocketAlarm, CourtDrive, PACER) a plus.
• Familiarity with Excel or Airtable a plus.
• Commitment to diversity, inclusion, accountability, democracy, and social progress.

Responsibilities

• Track and monitor federal regulatory activity and developments.
• Analyze proposed rulemakings and administrative actions to identify engagement opportunities.
• Conduct policy, regulatory, and social science research to support public comments and submissions.
• Analyze and synthesize data related to federal regulatory actions.
• Coordinate timely responses to regulatory actions with clients and partners.
• Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations and policy experts.
• Prepare briefings on legal and regulatory developments.
• Prepare comments, reports and other written work for submission and publication.
