Job summary

The City of Chandler Police Department seeks a Civilian Public Information Officer in the Media Relations Unit. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Media Manager and includes benefits; typical schedule is Tuesday–Friday, 8:00 AM–6:00 PM with after-hours on-call duties on rotation.

The ideal candidate blends customer service with teamwork, can craft engaging social content, disseminate information promptly, and coordinate with city leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Mass Communications, Digital Media or related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in marketing or communications with an emphasis on social media; or equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Must possess or obtain a valid Arizona driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Disseminate information to the public in a timely manner.
• Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with stakeholders across the Police Department and City of Chandler.
• Create engaging social media content including photos, videos and graphics; be a proficient storyteller delivering complex information to diverse audiences.
• Monitor media requests and respond promptly during on-call rotations.
• Operate mirrorless cameras, stabilizers, microphones, lighting kits and other production equipment.
• Organize opportunities for media to cover Department operations; coordinate with leadership on content strategy.
• Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Attend department events to capture digital media posts for social platforms.
• Assist in managing the department's digital content calendar and contribute to overall content strategy.
• Participate in event production, staging and technical support services.
• Occasionally work nights and weekends as required.
• Ensure visual content aligns with department brand, tone and messaging goals.
• Collaborate with police and city leadership to plan and execute projects.
