Job summary

The Town of Chapel Hill is seeking an Assistant Director for Public Housing to oversee the Public Housing division within the Housing and Community Development Department. You will assist the Director in implementing strategic initiatives, managing operations, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities include supervising staff, managing budgets, and engaging with residents and partners to promote transparency and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local public housing regulations and funding programs.
• Experience with redevelopment and renovation strategies (LIHTC, RAD blends, mixed financing).
• Staff supervision, team building, and organizational leadership experience.
• Ability to engage respectfully with residents, staff, and external partners.
• Strong resource management and implementation of innovative solutions.
• Ability to model RESPECT values in the Town's culture.

Responsibilities

• Identify and implement best practices for housing management and resident services.
• Ensure assets remain in good physical, financial, and regulatory condition.
• Supervise Public Housing staff; oversee assignments, evaluations, and development.
• Develop, monitor, and manage Public Housing budgets with fiscal accountability.
• Ensure adherence to HUD regulations and applicable laws.
• Engage with residents and partners to promote community and transparency.
• Assist Director in planning and directing Public Housing operations.
• Support strategic planning and policy development for the division.
• Serve on Department and Town-wide Senior Leadership Teams.
• Act as Director of Housing and Community Development when required.
