Job summary

The Lynchburg Redevelopment & Housing Authority (LRHA) is seeking an Assistant Asset Specialist to support LRHA properties in Lynchburg, VA. You will handle applications, verify income, determine eligibility, and provide admin services to Property Managers and residents.

You will work with applicants, residents, and staff to ensure accurate rent calculations, documentation, and timely communications in line with HUD regulations and LRHA policy. This is a full-time role based in an office setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• At least three years of administrative support in property management or a related field.
• LRHA may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook; ability to learn other software as needed.
• A valid driver’s license and insurability under LRHA’s plan.
• Clear communication in person, by phone, and by email.
• Ability to occasionally carry up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Interview applicants and residents to determine initial eligibility and continued occupancy.
• Calculate rent accurately at initial lease-up and at annual and interim recertifications, and enter results in LRHA’s system.
• Coordinate application documentation, including background checks, credit reviews, and income verification.
• Request and verify income from third parties by mail, fax, or telephone.
• Notify applicants in writing of eligibility decisions per HUD regulations and LRHA policy.
• Show vacant units and inform applicants about the apartment, community, and amenities.
• Perform or coordinate move-in, move-out, annual, and follow-up inspections; handle minor resident complaints.
• Inform residents of problems observed, explain corrective action, and document progress.
