Job summary

Goldbelt Professional Services is seeking a Microbiologist II to perform genomics‑driven virology work, including sequencing and diagnostic assays. You will handle virus materials, maintain cell lines, and contribute to data analysis and reports for national and international research efforts.

The role involves presenting findings at meetings and preparing manuscripts for publication, with opportunities to advance in public health missions and collaborations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology or related field required.
• 2–5 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain CDC Public Trust Clearance.
• Master’s degree in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform virus diagnostics and genomic sequencing on samples using qPCR and sequencing platforms.
• Develop and improve assay methods with advanced technologies.
• Maintain cell lines, virus variants and reagents for research.
• Record laboratory activities for peer‑reviewed publications and reports.
• Support international collaboration to evaluate capabilities and train personnel.
• Assist with ordering reagents and maintaining laboratory space.
• Propagate and purify Monkeypox and orthopoxviruses for assay validation.
• Perform nucleic acid extractions on animal samples related to zoonotic research.
• Analyze data and contribute to reports, presentations and manuscripts.
