Job summary

The Ohio Department of Health Public Health Laboratory seeks a Microbiology Supervisor 1 to lead development and implementation of whole genome sequencing, supervise laboratory scientists, and ensure compliance with testing procedures.

This exempt, full-time role involves coordinating pre-analytical to post-analytical workflows, engaging with clinicians and local health departments, and supporting grant-related activities and staff development.

Qualifications

• Completion of graduate core program in microbiology AND 6 mos. exp. as microbiologist AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in employee training & development.
• -Or completion of undergraduate core program in microbiology AND 18 mos. exp. as microbiologist AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in employee training & development.
• -Or 6 mos. exp. as Laboratory Scientist 3, 83293.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the development and implementation of whole genome sequencing for the Lab.
• Provide daily supervision of laboratory scientists assigned to the section.
• Oversee pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical activities of the sequencing section.
• Lead development of section's response to federal grant opportunities, monitoring and reporting progress.
• Attend section meetings and maintain contacts with physicians, laboratories, hospitals, and local health departments.
