Job summary

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment seeks an Environmental Microbiology Unit Supervisor to lead daily laboratory operations, manage staff, and ensure timely, compliant testing of environmental samples. You will oversee method development, QA/QC, and coordination with regulatory agencies, while maintaining quality management systems and customer service.

Residency within Colorado is required; this role reports to the Environmental Microbiology Unit and supports public health

Qualifications

• Nine years of related education/experience required.
• Minimum nine years of related work in biology, chemistry, or related fields.
• Masters or PhD in Microbiology preferred.
• Two+ years supervising high-complexity testing in a CLIA/ISO17025 regulated lab.

Responsibilities

• Direct, supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate unit staff.
• Plan and monitor workload to ensure timely testing and reporting.
• Provide technical guidance on methodologies, data interpretation, and troubleshooting.
• Lead method development, validation, and SOPs; oversee QA/QC activities.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and maintain quality management systems.
