Job summary

New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) Public Health Laboratory is seeking an Associate Laboratory Microbiologist Level I to support clinical and environmental testing.

Ideal candidates hold a degree in medical technology or related sciences and have or be eligible for NYS CLT license; responsibilities include routine and complex testing, quality control, and data management in a BSL-2/BSL-3 environment.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree in medical technology or related sciences with one year of technologist level lab experience.
• Ninety college credits with one year of technologist-level lab experience.
• Training prior to 1963 requires chemistry/biology credits meeting defined criteria.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab supervisors with routine operations and administrative tasks.
• Perform high and moderate complexity testing on clinical and environmental specimens.
• Use manual and automated methods and specialized instrumentation in BSL-2/BSL-3 labs.
• Generate reports, keep records, and verify testing results.
• Cross-train across PHL to assist with surge events.
• Provide oversight of administrative functions in the laboratory.
• Use LIS to perform data entry, queries, and verify testing results.
• Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment with inventory systems.
• Assist lab supervisors in quality control and quality assurance programs.
• Maintain biosafety and infection control programs.
• Prepare reports for compliance and surveillance activities.
