Job summary

The NYC Health Department seeks a Laboratory Associate for the Public Health Laboratory in New York City. This full-time role supports basic laboratory operations, handling specimens, maintaining supplies, and ensuring safety and quality in a busy public health laboratory.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; one year of full-time experience or training in a biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory; or eight credits in biology/chemistry/medical technology from an accredited college or university with equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Removes laboratory waste and maintains clean work areas.
• Receives, stores, and distributes laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Performs daily/weekly quality control and maintenance on lab equipment.
• Cleans and sterilizes animal cages and related items.
• Maintains inventory and ensures adequate stock of media and reagents.
• Ships specimens to external labs and maintains security of inventory.
