Job summary

The City of New York's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Bureau of the Public Health Laboratory, seeks an Associate Laboratory Microbiologist I to support testing and public health responses to threats such as COVID-19, HIV, Legionella and other outbreaks.

You will assist lab supervisors, perform high- and moderate-complexity testing, use BSL-2/3 methods, generate reports, manage data in LIS, and help with quality control and surge readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in medical technology or a related science and one year of laboratory experience at technologist level.
• 90 college credits with chemistry/biology credits and mathematics as specified, plus one year of technologist-level laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab supervisors with routine laboratory operations and administrative tasks.
• Perform high- and moderate-complexity laboratory testing on clinical and environmental specimens.
• Use manual and automated methods in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories.
• Generate reports, keep records, and verify testing results.
• Cross-train across PHL to support routine and surge events.
• Provide oversight of laboratory administrative functions.
• Use Laboratory Information System for data entry and verification of results.
• Maintain supplies and equipment; participate in quality control and quality assurance.
