Job summary

Texas Department of State Health Services, quality assurance arm in the Austin area, seeks a Laboratory Manager II to lead the Specimen Acquisition Branch. You will supervise staff, manage logistics for biochemical and microbiological specimens, and ensure compliance with QA standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include coordinating workflows, maintaining SOPs, and serving as a liaison with Safety Office to promote a safe lab culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or related field.
• Minimum three years in clinical, research, environmental or public health lab.
• Experience writing/developing policies and procedures (3+ years).

Responsibilities

• Oversee Specimen Logistics Group and Courier Coordinator activities.
• Coordinate specimen acceptability reviews and staff training.
• Ensure regulatory/compliance activities (CAP, CLIA) and QA documentation.
• Support safety and COOP activities and develop SOPs.
