Job summary

The State of Ohio’s Ohio Department of Health in Dayton is seeking a dedicated Environmental Health Specialist 1 to support BEHRP. The role focuses on inspections, investigations, and guidance to local health departments and industry to protect public health.

Based in Montgomery County, this permanent full-time position offers standard weekday hours and a starting hourly pay of $31.47, with potential progression to $32.84 after six months depending on performance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct program evaluations, inspections, surveys and/or investigations and enforcement activities in one or more environmental health science areas.
• Investigate complaints and recommend course of action to complainant, local health department (LHD) and/or industry.
• Conduct field investigations in various public health areas as assigned and provide advice and consultation to LHDs and industry.
• Assist LHD staff in resolving problems relative to environmental science areas (e.g., food safety, radon, campgrounds, agricultural labor camps, body art, resident camps, public swimming pools, spas and special use pools, private water systems, sewage treatment systems, hazardous and toxic substances, consumer product safety, lead).
• Assist LHDs in food borne outbreak investigations and/or illnesses associated with unsanitary conditions
• Prepare reports and correspondence using personal computer
• Assist staff in the development of educational materials
