Job summary

The Public Health Emergency Preparedness Specialist at Tarrant County Public Health will serve as a subject-matter expert for PHEP, coordinating with local organizations to educate the community and boost preparedness.

This role oversees the safety warden program, maintains the Health Alert Network database, coordinates drills and events, and supports after-hours emergencies on a rotating on-call basis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field; additional years of education may substitute for experience.
• Two years’ experience in public health emergency preparedness, emergency management, public health, or community outreach.
• HAM Radio Technician license or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

• Act as a PHEP SME and conduct community outreach and education for diverse groups.
• Attend health fairs and community events to raise PHEP awareness and preparedness.
• Oversee the safety warden program, develop safety plans, train wardens, and complete AARs.
• Track PHEP inventory for audits.
• Develop schedules for safety drills and create AARs.
• Support MRC events including setup and takedown of health fairs, exercises, and drills.
• Coordinate with TCPH warehouse staff for PHEP logistics and operations.
• Maintain PHEP radio communications, write and revise communication plans, and train staff.
• Maintain the HAN database and issue HAN alerts as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
