Job summary

Mecklenburg County Public Health in Charlotte is seeking a Diabetes Educator for a 10-month assignment to advance diabetes education within the School Health program. The nurse will train staff, students, and families, develop education materials and care plans, and collaborate with clinicians to ensure safe, evidence-based diabetes care in schools.

Qualifications

Minimum of three years professional nursing experience in pediatric, school health, or diabetes education.
Two years of diabetes care, education management, chronic disease or related patient care experience required.
Current RN license to practice in NC or another Nurse Licensure Compact state.
CDCES or BC-ADM certification.
CPR & AED certification by the American Heart Association.
Valid North Carolina or South Carolina driver's license may be required.
County driving privileges may be required.

Responsibilities

Deliver diabetes education and training to school health staff, personnel, students, and families.
Serve as lead instructor for the school health program’s diabetes orientation for new nursing staff.
Provide ongoing professional development to support staff competency in diabetes care.
Create/update educational materials, clinical guidelines, and diabetes care plans for the school setting.
Collaborate with medical providers, families, and school teams to ensure comprehensive care plans.
Develop and revise policies and procedures related to diabetes care in line with current standards and regulations.
Develop curricula reflecting evidence-based practice and varied learning styles.
