Job summary

County of Monterey is seeking a Chief Deputy Treasurer-Tax Collector to lead the Tax Division and ensure effective collection and safeguarding of public funds. This executive position coordinates with the Assessor, Auditor and Cannabis Program, influencing policy and legislative strategy.

The role oversees property taxes, TOT, and cannabis tax programs, drives regulatory compliance, and partners with multiple agencies to deliver essential county services.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing divisional activities.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Experience in public finance, budget administration and debt collection.
• Experience in project management and staff supervision.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and agencies.

Responsibilities

• Manages operations of the Treasury, Revenue, and Tax division, planning and directing work.
• Establishes priorities to meet legal deadlines and requirements.
• Builds partnerships with internal/external stakeholders and other departments.
• Advises executives on policy, budgetary issues, contracts, and IT.
• Reviews legislation and regulations; conducts complex analyses and reports.
• Represents the office at meetings and public events; presents information to stakeholders.
• Ensures compliance and efficient service delivery supporting county functions.
