Job summary

EQL Tech is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to bridge state agencies, banks and the startup's payments system. You will translate evolving regulatory and partner needs into auditable, reliable software in a hands-on, in-office SF setting.

You will own reconciliation, transaction flows, and governance of reporting, with a focus on correctness, idempotency and secure handling of billions in state-funded education payments.

Qualifications

• Translate half-formed requirements from state agencies or partners into concrete system design.
• Prioritize correctness; ensure validation sits in the database and is deterministic.
• Assume real-world unreliability and build systems that stay predictable under failure.
• Crave ownership; be the single trusted person for money movement between families, banks and agencies.
• Work in-person with the SF team; visa support available.

Responsibilities

• Own the regulatory and banking-partner reporting surface: build daily loan-tape, originations, audit trails and reporting.
• Develop high-trust, reliable reconciliation between ledgers, card events and vendor reports.
• Design money movement flows with ledgered state, idempotency and deterministic replay.
• Minimize operational risk with guardrails to prevent bad states as new partners come online.
• Architect a multi-service monorepo covering event pipelines, payments API, balance checks and reporting.
