Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach, Department of Human Services, is seeking motivated candidates to perform professional case work duties, self-sufficiency evaluations and coaching for individuals and families receiving public assistance benefits.

Duties include interviewing applicants, collecting documentation, managing case records, and coordinating with partner agencies to determine eligibility for SNAP, Medicaid, TANF and other programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services, business admin, accounting, or related field, or 4 years’ equivalent experience.
• Experience in social services benefits programs, clerical accounting, or medical billing/coding preferred.
• Strong interviewing and data collection skills; able to determine eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Conduct face-to-face interviews to determine eligibility for benefit programs; establish rapport with customers and assess needs.
• Collect, organize, evaluate, and verify documentation to determine eligibility.
• Maintain and update case records and generate management reports; ensure timely filing and updates.
• Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies; coordinate with other agencies and employers to obtain information.
• Schedule activities, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines using effective time management.
