Job summary

The National Gallery of Art is seeking a Communications professional to develop and implement integrated PR plans that share our collection and programs with the public. You will build media relationships, draft compelling materials, and coordinate coverage of exhibitions and events.

You will manage outreach to press, coordinate photo/video sessions, and help expand audience reach for a major art institution while upholding federal standards and practices.

Duties

Help

The Communications Office (DD-COM) of the National Gallery of Art, reporting to the Chief of Communications (DD-COM Chief) which is charged with the integrated communications activities of the Gallery. The primary purpose of DD-COM is to create and implement integrated communications plans on behalf of the Gallery, aimed at sharing our collection, programs, and resources with the public we serve.

Duties for this position include

• Develop and carry out integrated promotion/outreach strategies for programs in portfolio, with the goal of increasing attendance, positive public reaction, and online engagement.
• Establish, develop, and maintain effective relationships with media representatives in print, TV, digital and radio
• Research and write a variety of materials, including press releases, flyers, ads, and scripts, select/manage images, and coordinate photo and video sessions
• Research, select, and contact appropriate press representatives to attend and/or cover events.

Specialized Experience Statement

Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service or private sector, serving as a principal media contact for press and communications office in an art museum; implementing integrated PR and communications plans; growing a portfolio of press contacts; engaging key stakeholders around events AND targeting new audiences by growing the reach/influence of an arts or cultural institution.
