U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement seeks a public affairs professional to develop and write information material designed to reach local and national audiences for the agency, with offices in multiple cities including San Francisco.

You will ensure that all information released reflects the policies and program initiatives of the agency, and you will establish and maintain strong relationships with news media while coordinating external communications.

Organizational Location: These positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of Public Affairs, in Baltimore, Maryland; Chicago, Illinois; New York, New York; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Francisco, California; Seattle, Washington; Washington, District of Columbia.

You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:

  • Developing and writing information material designed to reach local and/or national audiences through various news media for the agency;
  • Ensuring that all information and material prepared and released accurately reflect the policies, views, and program initiatives of the agency;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with representatives of the news media in providing information about agency programs, policies, and services; AND;
  • Managing social media platforms to increase awareness and convey news and information to external and internal stakeholders concerning departmental programs or agency activities and events.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
