Meta is seeking a public affairs professional with deep experience in strategic communications and senior stakeholder engagement to drive the proactive AI narrative for policy and consumer audiences.
Based in San Francisco, you will shape messages, develop proof points grounded in product and research, and coordinate across communications, policy, research, and legal to advance campaigns. The role blends strategic direction with hands-on execution and rapid response in a fast-paced environment.
We are looking for a public affairs professional with deep experience in strategic communications and senior stakeholder engagement who can build and drive the proactive narrative on AI to the most influential policy and consumer voices — and who thrives in a fast-paced, campaign-style environment where relationships, precision, and strategic judgment drive impact. You will play a critical role in one of the company's most strategic initiatives: building understanding and support for AI. You'll be embedded in a strong team tackling some of the most important challenges that the company faces, and your work will directly shape how influential decision-makers understand and engage with Meta's AI vision. In this role, you will drive the strategy, development, and execution of Meta's proactive AI public affairs narrative — identifying the audiences and moments that matter most, developing compelling messages and proof points grounded in product and research reality, and setting the engagement architecture for the campaign: where and how Meta shows up, who leads, what success looks like, and how to sustain momentum. You will serve as the connective tissue across communications, marketing, policy, research, and legal, ensuring all narrative and engagement work ladders up to the campaign's strategic objectives. This role is ideal for someone both strategic and operational: able to set direction, create clarity in ambiguity, and deliver where the external landscape shifts quickly — balancing proactive storytelling with rapid response, and driving outcomes through influence rather than direct authority.
Own the proactive communications and narrative strategy within Meta's AI public affairs campaign — defining priority audiences and moments, developing the message architecture, and driving execution across priority markets
Develop messages and proof points grounded in product and research reality, and translate them into audience-specific products: proactive stories and pitches, creator briefs, op-eds, executive remarks and talking points, policy explainers, blog posts, and FAQs
Set and maintain the campaign's engagement architecture — determining where and how Meta should show up, who should lead, what success looks like, and how to keep momentum over time
Build and run a proactive earned-media and third-party validation strategy across journalists, opinion writers, podcasts, newsletters, and creators
Prepare senior leaders for high-stakes engagements — briefings, roundtables, media moments, hearings, and stakeholder meetings — with crisp narrative framing, anticipated questions, and clear calls to action
Identify and act on emerging moments in the AI landscape to deploy timely, high-value communications, and partner on rapid response and issue management so Meta is positioned in the conversations that matter most
Build feedback loops to assess what is resonating and where there is confusion or skepticism, and refine the approach based on stakeholder insight, earned media dynamics, and policy developments
Build repeatable message toolkits and best practices for senior-stakeholder communications that scale across markets and adapt as campaign needs evolve
8+ years of experience in public affairs, strategic communications, political campaigns, government relations, or policy communications
Track record of shaping how sophisticated audiences understand complex technology or policy issues, and of translating narrative work into measurable campaign outcomes
Experience working with and alongside journalists, creators, senior executives, government officials, and other high-profile stakeholders — with a clear understanding of what these audiences need to hear, how they evaluate claims about emerging technology, and what it takes to earn trust in contested environments
Experience coordinating across multiple internal functions (e.g., Communications, Policy, Legal, Marketing) to deliver integrated campaign outcomes
Ability to manage multiple high-stakes workstreams simultaneously at campaign speed with consistent attention to detail
Experience producing high-quality written and verbal communications, including drafting op-eds, executive remarks, and briefing materials for executive and VIP audiences
Sound judgment in high-stakes situations, with a collaborative and team-oriented approach
Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
Experience in technology, AI, or innovation policy — with the ability to communicate complex technology topics in accessible, compelling terms for both elite and broad audiences
Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
Proven success operating in a large, matrixed organization where campaign outcomes depend on coordinating across teams you don't directly manage
Existing networks among reporters, creators, and thought leaders in the AI/technology sector
Direct experience in placing op-eds, securing earned media, or running third-party validator programs that measurably advanced a policy or narrative objective
Demonstrated leadership skills with a willingness to take initiative, be resourceful, and operate with a high degree of autonomy and good judgment
Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
Courage and conviction to bring ideas forward, and the adaptability to shift strategy as conditions on the ground evolve
Experience engaging creators, influencers, or consumer-facing audiences alongside policy audiences
Track record of identifying and capitalizing on emerging policy or cultural moments to create high-value narrative opportunities
$146,000/year to $206,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
