Idaho Public Television seeks a PTV Producer/Writer to report on-camera, moderate, interview, and craft half-hour documentaries. This role combines reporting, writing, and production for Idaho Reports and, when not in session, for Idaho Experience or Outdoor Idaho.

You will interview politicians and newsmakers, write compelling proposals, and coordinate with directors, videographers, and editors. The position supports public media across Idaho with a strong emphasis on nonpartisan, balanced

Summary:

This position involves on-camera reporting, moderating, interviewing, and the skills required to write and produce half-hour documentaries.

Job Responsibilities:

Reporter Responsibilities: Idaho Reports is a weekly political roundtable series that airs during the Idaho State Legislative session, from early January to mid-April. This position serves as a producer, reporter, writer, and occasional backup host. Responsibilities include interviewing politicians and newsmakers; reporting, writing, and producing video content ranging from 90 seconds to several minutes, often under deadline pressure. Additional duties include cultivating and maintaining source networks across government agencies, stakeholder groups, legal institutions, advocacy organizations, and communities; conducting live-to-tape interviews; pitching original stories; overseeing the series’ social media accounts and podcast; and collaborating with the host/lead producer to determine coverage priorities.

Producer/Writer Responsibilities: When Idaho Reports is not in session, this position produces episodes or segments for Idaho Experience and/or Outdoor Idaho. Responsibilities include researching, pitching, and writing proposals; coordinating, organizing, and conducting interviews; gathering necessary materials to create visually and aurally engaging content; collaborating with the director, videographer, and editor; and producing on-air promotional materials as needed. The role may also represent the organization at community events and public appearances.

Minimum Qualifications:

Good knowledge of:

• Video, broadcast television, radio or newspaper production processes
• FCC rules and regulations regarding public broadcast restrictions, including editorial integrity and funding standards and practices

Experience:

• Complex journalistic projects involving concepts, research, investigation, writing and editing scripts across broadcast and digital platforms
• Conducting journalistic interviews off-camera or as an on-camera host or moderator
• Working with a team on a project or within an organization
• Working within an established budget monitoring and maintaining records of expenses, time, personnel, facilities, and copyrights for final project reports.
• A valid driver's license or ability to obtain one if offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrates high journalistic standards, ethics, and practices that support independent, nonpartisan, and balanced news coverage and documentary production.
• Experience creating platform-specific content for broadcast, YouTube, and social media.
• Experience or familiarity with video editing and videography.
• Knowledge of issues, politics, geography, history, and culture of the U.S. West, as well as Idaho state and local government.
