Job summary

FedEx Corporation is hiring for a part-time Yard Switcher in Chicago, IL. You will move trailers between the yard and doors, switch trailers from yard to doors and vice versa, and assist with loading/unloading packages. You will communicate with management and document moves using available systems.

Safety and accuracy are essential in this fast-paced role. No experience is required, though 6 months in package handling or CDL-related switching is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Move and switch trailers between yard, doors and unload/load areas.
• Coordinate trailer movements with management or central control.
• Document trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Follow safety procedures for yard switching and package handling.
• Load and unload packages onto vehicles, trailers, or conveyor carts.
• Sort packages by scanning, reading labels, and memorizing information.
• Other duties as assigned.
