Job summary

FedEx Corporation is seeking a Yard Switcher/Package Handler in Chicago, IL. You will move trailers between yards and doors, coordinate with control centers, and document movements using yard management tools. You may also handle packages, perform safety checks, and assist with loads and unloads as part of daily operations.

The role requires basic safety compliance, ability to read labels, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment. Prior CDL or switcher experience is helpful, but not required.

Qualifications

• None required
• Six (6) months experience in package handling or switching/CDL preferred
• Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a DOT file
• Ability to follow safety instructions and work procedures
• Ability to read numbers and route packages accurately

Responsibilities

• Performs trailer switches moving parked trailers from yard to doors and back
• Communicates with management to coordinate trailer moves in the yard
• Documents trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards
• Pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment
• Demonstrates yard switching safety processes and procedures
• Loads and unloads packages onto/from vehicles and conveyors
• Lifts and moves packages for two to four hour shifts
• Sorts packages by scanning labels and memorizing information
• Performs other duties as assigned
