Harvard University Central Administration seeks a relief shuttle driver to operate campus routes in Cambridge and Allston. Schedule includes early morning shifts on select days, with 19 hours per week and a shift differential. Candidates must hold a MA CDL with Passenger & Air Brake endorsements and have a solid driving record.
Responsibilities include daily safety checks, driver communications, and assisting passengers with mobility needs. Uniform is provided; pre-employment screenings apply.
Operates shuttle bus, receives instructions from coordinator and responds to requests throughout Cambridge/Allston campuses. Normal hours of work will be Sunday 12AM-5AM, Monday 12AM-4AM, Thursday/Friday 6:45AM-11:45AM. Management will have the discretion to alter the work schedule day with a 48-hour notice to employee to cover for vacations/extended absences/open shifts/charters. This is a relief driver position.
Will be required to wear a uniform provided by employer.
_ Emergency Status Designation:_ Critical Operations Personnel
Must be willing and able to perform physically demanding work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. The incumbent needs the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Required to sit for prolonged periods of time.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and a valid Massachusetts state commercial driver’s license with “Passenger & Air Brake” endorsements with a minimum of five years driving experience required. Must have an excellent driving record. Three to five years of related passenger transport experience preferred. Must possess strong verbal communication skills, a clear speaking voice, and solid customer service skills, including: courtesy, flexibility, sensitivity, patience, and humor. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a customer‑focused team environment required.

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
