Job summary

Midland College in Midland, Texas is seeking a Part-time Reference Librarian to support students, faculty, and the public in accessing information resources for instructional research. The role requires Sunday evenings, one weeknight per week, and being on call as needed.

In this Access Services position you will assist patrons with books, journals, databases, e-books, and OPAC, help at the Circulation desk, and perform related duties. A Bachelor’s degree is required; MLS preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Minimum of one year working in a library or related setting.
• Experience with personal computers, photocopiers/scanners, library information systems, overhead projectors and audio/visual equipment.
• Customer-service oriented.
• Self-directed.
• Master of Library Science or Master of Library Information Science preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides reference assistance to library patrons in using books, journals, and other printed resources.
• Assists patrons with accessing databases, e-books, and e-magazines.
• Assists with online public access catalog (OPAC) for book holdings information.
• Circulation desk assistance.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Typical office Business Hours M-Th 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. F 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. summer M-Th 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 pm Periodic evening and weekend hours during peak periods (e.g., open enrollment, payroll) Occasional travel (less than 10%)
