Rutgers University, operating through UCHC at the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, seeks a Part Time Mental Health Staff Nurse for day shifts. The role provides nursing care focusing on ambulatory needs for inmates, using the nursing process within a correctional setting.

Responsibilities include assessments, collaboration with healthcare and security staff, setting nursing goals, planning care, and delegating duties as team leader.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in New Jersey.
• Minimum of one year of psychiatric nursing experience.
• CPR Certification required.
• Valid Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological and emotional needs of residents (adolescents 13–17, adults 18–64).
• Performs assessments in multiple settings including intake, health unit, emergencies, chronic care, infirmary.
• Collaborates with healthcare professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.
• Identifies resident-patient goals and implements nursing interventions.
• Plans nursing care based on assessments and resident needs.
• As team leader or charge nurse, delegates duties and guides care delivery.
