Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College seeks a part-time math tutor to work with students one-on-one, using established protocols to explain math concepts clearly and help students succeed. You will maintain excellent customer service and stay dependable with a regular tutoring schedule, guiding learners through problems with patience and clarity.

Applicants should have substantial math background and prior tutoring or mentoring experience.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students one-on-one in math and related courses using established protocols.
• Maintain high-quality customer service while back-to-back tutoring sessions.
• Be dependable and maintain a regular work schedule.
• Apply advanced problem-solving to resolve student questions.
• Identify key student concerns and prioritize topics.

Job description

This position pays $15.00 hourly.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in math subjects from pre-algebra to college-level trigonometry.
• Additional knowledge in calculus, physics, or physical sciences is a benefit.
• Proficiency with personal computers, copiers, printers, Microsoft Office Suite, and Zoom.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Must be dependable and able to work when scheduled.
• Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions.
• Strong interpersonal skills to engage professionally and effectively with a diverse student population.
• Demonstrate strong customer service and/or student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving skills, and desire to identify and support student success.

Responsibilities

• Use established math protocols to tutor students one-on-one in math and math-related courses.
• Sustain high-quality customer service while facilitating back-to-back tutoring sessions.
• Be dependable and able to maintain an established work schedule.
• Apply advanced problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve student questions and inquiries.
• Ability to identify key student concerns and prioritize subject issues.
• Ability to guide students through complex concepts with patience and clarity.
• Ability to motivate and coach others and remain adaptable to various student needs.
• Accurately track tutoring sessions for outcome reporting.
• Adhere to academic and privacy standards, including FERPA compliance.

Education and Experience

• Substantial background in Math.
• Prior tutoring, teaching, and/or mentoring experience preferred.
• Possess the ability to connect with a wide range of individuals.
• Ability to explain math and scientific concepts clearly and effectively.
• Commitment to fostering student success and academic growth.
