Job summary

Kids for the Future is seeking a part-time Food Program Coordinator to oversee daily operations, coordinate distribution, and manage volunteers at our Houghton Lake facility. You will ensure safety, accuracy, and compassionate service for clients while maintaining records and collaborating with partners.

The ideal candidate has nonprofit or food service experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and a commitment to equity.

Qualifications

  • Experience in community services, nonprofit operations, food service, or related fields.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Comfort with basic computer systems and inventory software.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and compassionate service.
  • Knowledge of food safety guidelines (ServSafe certification is a plus).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily food program operations, including intake, sorting, packing and distribution.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clients, volunteers, and staff.
  • Train, supervise, and support volunteers during shifts.
  • Assign tasks based on skill level, availability, and operational needs.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative volunteer culture.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate restocking, ordering, and donations.
  • Track incoming and outgoing food using established systems.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies, donors, and suppliers to ensure consistent supply flow.
  • Greet and assist clients with empathy and professionalism.
  • Support equitable distribution practices and uphold confidentiality.
  • Identify client needs and connect them with additional community resources when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of distributions, donations, and volunteer hours.
  • Prepare reports for leadership, grant requirements, and community partners.
  • Assist with scheduling, communications, and program planning.
