Job summary

Salem Community College seeks a Part-time EOF Advisor to guide students through course registration and degree completion in a timely fashion, while supporting recruitment to boost EOF enrollment.

You will access college data systems, monitor academic progress, provide advisement (including e-advisement), maintain a campus-wide caseload, refer students to resources, and collaborate with the Director to enhance retention efforts; some travel and evenings may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required for the role.
• Master's degree preferred where applicable.
• 2+ years of experience advising a diverse student population.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to collaborate.

Responsibilities

• Advise and register EOF students for courses to complete degree programs on time.

Job description

Role:The Part-time EOF Advisor is responsible for advising and registering students for courses that will enable them to complete their degree program in a timely fashion. This role also supports recruitment efforts to increase EOF student enrollment at the College.Major Duties and Responsibilities:Access and use college data management systems to maintain student information, advisement contacts, referrals, and program data, as well as prepare an end of semester report and a variety of other reports, as needed.Monitor and track EOF students' academic performance and progress and provide advisement (including e-advisement).Work closely with the Director to contribute to the design, coordination and implementation of effective strategies to assist with EOF student persistence and retention efforts.Maintain an EOF student caseload and advisement schedule campus-wide. Refer students to appropriate resources both on and off campus.Collect and analyze data each semester to use in co-developing and co-facilitating empowering workshop offerings for EOF students.Identify and assist with facilitation and implementation of various workshops on college success to enhance the retention of EOF studentsAssist with recruitment efforts at both on- and off-campus locations; some evenings and weekends may be required.Establish, develop, and maintain positive working relationships with high school guidance counselors, foster care case workers, and other relevant community advocacy groups to help further advance the mission of EOF.Work collaboratively with personnel in Academic Affairs and across the Enrollment Management and Student Success Division.Answer telephones and provide supporting program or college information to students and families.Maintain a working knowledge of financial aid available to students, and assist students as needed through the financial aid process.Attend training programs and serve on campus-wide committees, as required.Travel as needed: college visits, conferences, special trips.Adheres to FERPA and other regulatory guidelines.Other duties as assignedKnowledge and Skills: Education Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred Experience Two or more years of experience working with a diverse student population in the area of academic advising, career, and transfer counseling for EOF Student cohort. Interpersonal Skills Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Ability to work with diverse academic and cultural backgrounds of community college students and staff. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation. Other Skills Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, coordination and excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff. Competencies in networking with community partners and local employers Physical Requirements The work is mostly sedentary; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Work Environment Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office. High level of energy and enthusiasm. Evening and some weekends required. Travel necessary.
