Job summary

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Houston is seeking an experienced Psychotherapist to join our inpatient team caring for children and adolescents with complex medical and behavioral conditions.

The role focuses on individual, group, milieu, and family psychotherapy within an interdisciplinary framework. Licensed clinicians will collaborate with psychiatry, nursing, and rehab services to develop tailored treatment plans and monitor progress.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related behavioral health field required.
• Current Texas LPC, LMSW, or LCSW license required.
• Current BLS certification or ability to obtain as required.
• Experience providing psychotherapy to children/adolescents preferred in inpatient settings.

Responsibilities

• Complete ongoing clinical assessments and develop individualized mental health treatment goals and objectives.
• Provide evidence-based individual, group, milieu, and family psychotherapy in accordance with each patient's interdisciplinary treatment plan.
• Maintain an assigned caseload and coordinate regularly scheduled individual and family therapy sessions.
• Provide therapeutic interventions for children and adolescents experiencing psychiatric, behavioral, emotional, and neurodevelopmental challenges.
• Identify and address behavioral and emotional concerns that may interfere with medical treatment, rehabilitation, or overall progress.
• Collaborate with physicians, psychiatry, nursing, behavioral therapists, rehabilitation therapists, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in regularly scheduled interdisciplinary treatment conferences for patients on caseload.
• Provide timely and accurate documentation of therapy sessions, assessments, interventions, and other patient encounters.
• Provide staff with psychoeducation, de-escalation techniques, and effective clinical strategies for supporting patients with complex behavioral and medical needs.
• Communicate patient progress, clinical concerns, treatment recommendations, and behavioral programming needs to program and medical leadership.
• Participate actively in discharge planning and help coordinate successful transitions to the next appropriate level of care.
• Work collaboratively with patients, families, and guardians throughout treatment.
• Participate in ongoing program development and make recommendations to improve treatment effectiveness and fidelity.
• Remain current with evidence-based practices and emerging research related to pediatric and adolescent behavioral health.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Houston is seeking a compassionate and experienced Psychotherapist to join our interdisciplinary clinical team providing specialized care to children and adolescents with complex behavioral health, neurodevelopmental, psychiatric, and medical needs. The Psychotherapist provides individual, group, milieu, and family psychotherapy while working closely with psychiatry, nursing, behavioral therapy, case management, rehabilitation, and other clinical disciplines to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. This is an excellent opportunity for an LPC, LMSW, or LCSW who enjoys working with a challenging and highly specialized pediatric and adolescent population in an inpatient setting.

What You’ll Do

• Complete ongoing clinical assessments and develop individualized mental health treatment goals and objectives.

• Work closely with the Program Director to establish caseload expectations and weekly group coverage.

• Participate in regularly scheduled interdisciplinary treatment conferences for patients on caseload.
• Provide timely and accurate documentation of therapy sessions, assessments, interventions, and other patient encounters.

Experience

• Experience providing psychotherapy to children and/or adolescents strongly preferred.
• Experience working with patients with behavioral health, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual/developmental disabilities, trauma, or other neurodevelopmental conditions is highly preferred.
• Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring behavioral or therapeutic treatment plans preferred.
• Two or more years of experience in an inpatient hospital, psychiatric, residential, or rehabilitation setting preferred.
• Experience providing individual, group, and family therapy is strongly preferred.
