Job summary

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Houston is seeking a compassionate Psychotherapist to join an interdisciplinary clinical team serving children and adolescents with complex behavioral health needs in an inpatient setting.

The role focuses on individual, group, milieu, and family psychotherapy, working closely with psychiatry, nursing, and other disciplines to create and implement tailored treatment plans.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or a related behavioral health field required.
• Current Texas LPC, LMSW, or LCSW license required.
• Current BLS certification or ability to obtain as required.
• Experience with children/adolescents in inpatient settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete ongoing clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment goals.
• Provide individual, group, milieu, and family psychotherapy as per treatment plan.
• Maintain a caseload and coordinate regular therapy sessions.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing, psychiatry, and other disciplines.
• Document therapy sessions, assessments, and interventions timely.
• Participate in discharge planning and treatment conferences.

Position Summary

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Houston is seeking a compassionate and experiencedPsychotherapist to join our interdisciplinary clinical team providing specialized care to children and adolescents with complex behavioral health, neurodevelopmental, psychiatric, and medical needs.

The Psychotherapist provides individual, group, milieu, and family psychotherapy while working closely with psychiatry, nursing, behavioral therapy, case management, rehabilitation, and other clinical disciplines to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.

Our patients may present with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral dysregulation, psychiatric diagnoses, trauma histories, and other co-occurring medical and behavioral conditions.

Our interdisciplinary model brings together medical, psychiatric, behavioral, nursing, rehabilitation, and psychosocial services to provide comprehensive, individualized care.

What You’ll Do

• Complete ongoing clinical assessments and develop individualized mental health treatment goals and objectives.
• Provide evidence-basedindividual, group, milieu, and family psychotherapy in accordance with each patient's interdisciplinary treatment plan.
• Maintain an assigned caseload and coordinate regularly scheduled individual and family therapy sessions.
• Provide therapeutic interventions for children and adolescents experiencing psychiatric, behavioral, emotional, and neurodevelopmental challenges.
• Identify and address behavioral and emotional concerns that may interfere with medical treatment, rehabilitation, or overall progress.
• Work closely with the Program Director to establish caseload expectations and weekly group coverage.
• Collaborate with physicians, psychiatry, nursing, behavioral therapists, rehabilitation therapists, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in regularly scheduled interdisciplinary treatment conferences for patients on caseload.
• Provide timely and accurate documentation of therapy sessions, assessments, interventions, and other patient encounters.
• Provide staff with psychoeducation, de-escalation techniques, and effective clinical strategies for supporting patients with complex behavioral and medical needs.
• Communicate patient progress, clinical concerns, treatment recommendations, and behavioral programming needs to program and medical leadership.
• Participate actively in discharge planning and help coordinate successful transitions to the next appropriate level of care.
• Work collaboratively with patients, families, and guardians throughout treatment.
• Participate in ongoing program development and make recommendations to improve treatment effectiveness and fidelity.
• Remain current with evidence-based practices and emerging research related to pediatric and adolescent behavioral health.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field required.

Licensure

• Current TexasLPC, LMSW, or LCSW license required.
• Current BLS certification or ability to obtain as required.
• Must maintain all required licenses and certifications in good standing throughout employment.

Experience

• Experience providing psychotherapy tochildren and/or adolescents strongly preferred.
• Experience working with patients with behavioral health, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual/developmental disabilities, trauma, or other neurodevelopmental conditions is highly preferred.
• Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring behavioral or therapeutic treatment plans preferred.
• Two or more years of experience in aninpatient hospital, psychiatric, residential, or rehabilitation setting preferred.
• Experience providing individual, group, and family therapy is strongly preferred.
