Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing and have a current Registered Nurse license with the state of Connecticut.
• Must be trained in de-escalation techniques, and receive certification within the orientation period of hire.
• Must receive RQI certification within three (3) months of hire and maintain clinical competency during employment within this role.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive assessments and reassessments of the patient’s condition and care needs, including psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural aspects.
• Assess and reassess pain; educate patient and family regarding pain management; document assessments and outcomes.
• Develops and revises individualized treatment plans; involve patient and family in goal setting; daily evaluation of effectiveness.
• Follows the seven medication rights; demonstrates knowledge of medications including psychotropic drugs and correct administration.
• Documents nursing process and responses to care in a timely manner with appropriate tools.
• Demonstrates ability to work under stress; uses critical thinking and sound judgment in priority setting and delegation.
• Formulates teaching plans based on learning needs; includes family when appropriate.
• Practices autonomously, pursues growth, and serves as a professional role model.
• Maintains safe and therapeutic environment, respecting privacy needs of psychiatric patients.
• Effectively uses psychological and physical management techniques for violent or potentially violent situations.
• Participates in Early Response codes and PMT trainings.
• Sets limits with patients and maintains professional boundaries.
• Collaborates with the treatment team to meet patient needs.
• Provides psychotherapeutic treatment and nurse-led educational groups.
