Job summary

The Arizona State Hospital, part of the Arizona Department of Health Services, is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse to provide direct psychiatric and medical nursing care on a rotating schedule at the Phoenix campus. The role requires adherence to treatment plans, administration of medications, and collaboration with the treatment team.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid and current RN license to practice in Arizona.
• CPR and NVCI certification required.
• State Hospital fingerprint clearance card required or apply within seven working days.
• Two years work experience as a psychiatric nurse or in care and treatment of mentally ill patients preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct psychiatric care and medical nursing care to patients; observation of behavior and physical status
• Transcribe doctor orders, medication and chart review, administer medication and treatments, count accountable medication, assist doctor in sick call with nursing input
• Documentation in patient records, complete nursing assessments, summaries and other documentation as needed
• Provides orientation, supervision, on the job training to new employees; assists in evaluation of job performance
• Attends in service training to maintain knowledge of leadership, supervision, updates, and legal aspects of nursing
