Job summary

Southridge Behavioral Hospital, a modern, state-of-the-art facility, seeks a Psychiatric Mental Health Technician to support patient care under RN supervision. This joint venture with Trinity Health System and Universal Health Services offers a dynamic team environment.

You will assist in safety assessments, support treatment plans, help with grooming and daily activities, participate in groups, and perform rounds every 15 minutes to ensure patient safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Bachelor's degree in Psychology or Human Services preferred but not required.
• BLS CPR certification is required or can be obtained after hire.
• Experience as a psychiatric technician is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in ongoing assessment of safety and emotional needs of patients.
• Follow treatment plans and provide individualized care.
• Assist patients with grooming and hygiene.
• Participate in groups and activities for diverse patient populations.
• Maintain therapeutic rapport with patients.
• Use verbal de-escalation techniques and provide physical management as needed.
• Make rounds every 15 minutes to ensure patient safety.
• Assist RN with admissions, discharges, vital signs, searches, and unit orientation.

Position Description:

Psychiatric Mental Health Technicians carry out the daily routines of patient care under the direction Registered Nurse and Shift Supervisor. This includes:

• Assisting in the ongoing assessment of the safety and emotional needs of each patient.


• Demonstrating awareness of the key elements of the treatment plans for all assigned patients and provides intervention/care accordingly on an individualized basis.


• Assisting patients with their personal grooming and personal hygiene, appropriate to the patient’s age, developmental level and needs.


• Participating in assigned groups and activities to meet the needs of various patient populations.


• Demonstrating the ability to maintain therapeutic and professional rapport with patients.


• Participating with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu. Provides verbal de-escalation techniques and physical management, as needed.


• Making rounds on patients, including documenting every 15 minutes or sooner to provide patient safety.


• Assisting the RN with patient admissions and discharges. Performs vital signs, belongings searches, and orientation to the unit.

Hours and Location:

Flexible Per Diem options. Five shifts a month with at least one weekend shift.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required


• Bachelors degree in Psychology or Human Services related field preferred but not required


• BLS CPR certified (Can obtain once hired)


• Experience working as a psychiatric technician preferred
