Job summary

Southridge Behavioral Hospital is a joint venture facility providing care to adult and geriatric patients. We are seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Technician to support RN staff and Shift Supervisor with daily patient care and safety.

The role includes rounds every 15 minutes, assisting with admissions/discharges, and participating in therapeutic activities. Full-time evening shift (3pm–11pm) with every-other weekend, located in Grand Rapids, MI.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelors degree in Psychology or Human Services related field preferred but not required
• CPR certified (Can obtain once hired)
• Experience working as a psychiatric technician preferred

Responsibilities

• Assisting in ongoing assessment of the safety and emotional needs of each patient.
• Demonstrating awareness of treatment plan elements and providing individualized intervention/care.
• Assisting patients with personal grooming and hygiene appropriate to age and needs.
• Participating in groups and activities to meet needs of various patient populations.
• Maintaining therapeutic and professional rapport with patients.
• Participating with staff to maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu; provide de-escalation and physical management as needed.
• Making rounds on patients, documenting every 15 minutes or sooner for safety.
• Assisting the RN with patient admissions and discharges; perform vital signs, searches, and orientation to the unit.

Position Description:

Psychiatric Mental Health Technicians carry out the daily routines of patient care under the direction Registered Nurse and Shift Supervisor. This includes:

• Assisting in the ongoing assessment of the safety and emotional needs of each patient.
• Demonstrating awareness of the key elements of the treatment plans for all assigned patients and provides intervention/care accordingly on an individualized basis.
• Assisting patients with their personal grooming and personal hygiene, appropriate to the patient’s age, developmental level and needs.
• Participating in assigned groups and activities to meet the needs of various patient populations.
• Demonstrating the ability to maintain therapeutic and professional rapport with patients.
• Participating with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu. Provides verbal de-escalation techniques and physical management, as needed.
• Making rounds on patients, including documenting every 15 minutes or sooner to provide patient safety.
• Assisting the RN with patient admissions and discharges. Performs vital signs, belongings searches, and orientation to the unit.

Hours and Location:

Full-Time, 3pm to 11pm for 2nd/Evening Shift. Schedule includes every other weekend.
