Job summary

Southridge Behavioral Hospital is seeking qualified Psychiatric Mental Health Technicians for the 2nd shift (3pm–11pm) in the Grand Rapids area. The role involves assisting in patient care under RN supervision, conducting rounds every 15 minutes, and supporting treatment plans with compassionate, evidence-based care.

Required: high school diploma or equivalent; CPR certification (obtainable after hire). A Bachelor's in Psychology or Human Services is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily patient care routines under RN and Shift Supervisor.
• Assess safety and emotional needs of patients and respond per treatment plans.
• Assist with grooming and personal hygiene relevant to patient needs.
• Participate in groups/activities to meet patient needs.
• Maintain therapeutic rapports with patients and de-escalate as needed.
• Conduct rounds every 15 minutes or sooner to ensure patient safety.
• Assist with patient admissions and discharges; perform vital signs, searches, and orientation.

Position Description

Psychiatric Mental Health Technicians carry out the daily routines of patient care under the direction Registered Nurse and Shift Supervisor. This includes:

• Assisting in the ongoing assessment of the safety and emotional needs of each patient.
• Demonstrating awareness of the key elements of the treatment plans for all assigned patients and provides intervention/care accordingly on an individualized basis.
• Assisting patients with their personal grooming and personal hygiene, appropriate to the patient’s age, developmental level and needs.
• Participating in assigned groups and activities to meet the needs of various patient populations.
• Demonstrating the ability to maintain therapeutic and professional rapport with patients.
• Participating with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu. Provides verbal de-escalation techniques and physical management, as needed.
• Making rounds on patients, including documenting every 15 minutes or sooner to provide patient safety.
• Assisting the RN with patient admissions and discharges. Performs vital signs, belongings searches, and orientation to the unit.

Hours and Location

Full-Time, 3pm to 11pm for 2nd/Evening Shift. Schedule includes every other weekend.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelors degree in Psychology or Human Services related field preferred but not required
• CPR certified (Can obtain once hired)
• Experience working as a psychiatric technician or CNA preferred
