Job summary

Western State Hospital is seeking full-time Certified Nursing Aides for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts in Staunton, VA. You will work with an interdisciplinary team, document vital signs in the EHR, assist with ADLs, and maintain patient safety.

Requirements include current CNA certification and ability to provide direct psychiatric care in a secure setting, with strong communication and teamwork. Overtime and weekend shifts are required; the hospital offers comprehensive benefits and growth

Qualifications

• Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
• Ability to provide direct psychiatric patient care under supervision.
• Effective communication with staff and patients.
• Able to work in a secure environment with acute symptoms.
• Follow instructions and report observations to licensed staff.
• Willing to learn recovery/trauma informed care.
• Able to intervene in crisis situations.
• Learn activities of daily living assistance for patients.
• Willing to learn disorders and human behavior basics.
• Overtime and weekend work may be required.
• Maintain BLS certification; complete competency training including TOVA III.
• Has basic computer skills; CNA certification in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Deliver quality care as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Monitor and document vital signs in the EHR.
• Assist individuals with ADLs.
• Provide one-on-one direct observations.
• Use de-escalation techniques to manage behaviors.
• Administer CPR and handle physical interventions as approved.
• Serve meals and maintain cleanliness in patient areas.
• Observe and report interventions, treatments, and patient well‑being.
• Escort patients to appointments and activities.
