Job summary

This is a 3rd shift Psychiatric Care Technician position at the Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Danville, VA, under the Dept Behavioral Health/Develop. The role involves working with patients to support therapeutic goals, address concerns, and manage behavior in a 72-bed state facility.

The job includes handling aggressive situations with least-restrictive interventions whenever possible. Shift work includes two 12-hour shifts and two 8-hour shifts with potential overtime.

Qualifications

• Basic computer skills and a valid driver’s license are required.
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions is required.
• Physical and mental ability to participate in patient’s treatment and behavior management.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with patients to achieve therapeutic goals through activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Attend to patients’ problems and concerns and encourage participation in activities.
• Provide intervention for behavior problems and crisis situations as needed.
• Monitor and report changes in patients’ medical and psychiatric status.
