Job summary

Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis is seeking a Psychiatric Associate to join the Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT). The role supports patient care during night shifts (7:00 PM–7:30 AM) on 12-hour shifts, with every third weekend and a two-week cycle.

Under RN direction, you will conduct safety checks, assist with ADLs, de-escalate, and participate in milieu management, coordinating with the treatment team to deliver therapeutic care.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience caring for patients with primary mental health and/or substance use disorder in an acute care setting (inpatient, ED).
  • 2 years experience in mental health, healthcare, or school setting (NA, NST, PCA, behavioral tech) and
  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable individuals or high acuity behavioral needs.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc, Red Cross).

Responsibilities

  • Maintains safety of patient and staff by conducting safety checks and de-escalation as trained.
  • Performs basic patient daily living routines and assist with ADLs.
  • Provides educational programming with individuals or groups according to treatment plan.
  • Responds to emergency situations per policy and participates in milieu management.

Job description

Responsibilities/Job Description:
Fairview is looking for a Psychiatric Associate to join our outstanding Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT.)

We are conveniently located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River near downtown Minneapolis!

This role is approved for60 hours, every two weeks on the night shift (7:00PM - 7:30AM) , working 12 - hour shifts and every third weekend with a variable schedule. This position is SEIU benefit eligible.

The Psych Associate is responsible for the delivery of patient care and promotion of a therapeutic environment as delegated by and under the direction of the Registered Nurse so that goals and objectives of treatment are achieved on each unit as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains safety of patient and staff by conducting the following as assigned:
  • Conducts safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.
  • Conducts room, belonging and unit searches. Responds and participates in de-escalation of patient including physical intervention as trained.
  • Actively participates in milieu management with treatment team collaboration.
  • Performs basic patient daily living routines and procedures according to treatment plan
  • Demonstrates knowledge of signs/symptoms of mental health diagnoses and therapeutic interactions and milieu management.
  • Conducts educational programming with individual and/or patient groups according to appropriate treatment plan
  • Responds to emergency situations as trained per policy.
  • Participates in the treatment team’s mission, goals and plans.
  • Acts as a member of the multi-disciplinary therapeutic team.
  • Exhibits verbal communication in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.
  • Possesses knowledge of current issues, changes and updates in Behavioral Services policies and procedures.
  • ADLs & Physical Support
  • Provide light to medium ADL assistance, including hygiene, grooming, dressing, oral care, toileting, eating and mobility support.
  • Assist with supplies, setup, and patient direction regarding basic care routines.
  • Provide mobility support appropriate to training (e.g., gait belts, wheelchair assistance).
Required Qualifications
  • 3 - 5 year of experience caring for patients with primary mental health and/or substance use disorder in an acute care setting(inpatient, ED, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable individuals or high acuity behavioral needs.

Additional Requirements (must be obtained or completed within a period of time)

BERT training to be completed prior to the end of orientation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • B.S./B.A. in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Health Care, Social Work, Criminal Justice or related field.
  • Experience in inpatient, ED, behavioral health, EMT/paramedic, emergency medical services or other related higher acuity settings such as a school, residential treatment facility, group home, etc.

  • Mental Health and/or Chemical Dependence Units

Qualifications:
$26.06- $35.56 Hourly
