Job summary

Burrow Global is seeking a PSV/Pressure Safety Engineer to lead PSV calculations, overpressure analyses, and flare system reviews for EPC projects in the Deer Park area. The role ensures PRDs and piping configurations meet API, ASME, and OSHA PSM standards. Field verifications will be conducted onsite in Deer Park, TX.

Required are a B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, 10+ years EPC experience, and proficiency with API 520/521/2000, ASME I & VIII, and IPRSM/Aspen tools. TX P.E. is a plus.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited university.
• 10+ years of process safety or mechanical engineering experience in an EPC setting for oil & gas/oil refining.
• Strong knowledge of API 520, API 521, API 2000, ASME I & VIII, and TEMA.
• Hands-on with IPRSM; familiarity with Aspen HYSYS/Plus and FlareNet.

Burrow Global is seeking to hire a PSV / Pressure Safety Engineer who will be responsible for leading and executing Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) calculations, overpressure protection analyses, and flare system evaluations for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects in the Deer Park and Gulf Coast region. This role ensures all pressure relief devices (PRDs), header systems, and associated piping configurations comply with client specifications, local regulations, and industry standards (API, ASME, OSHA PSM).

Candidates note: No per diem or relocation assistance is available on this position. This is an onsite position in Deer Park, TX

Key Responsibilities

• Overpressure Scenario Analysis & Sizing: Identify, evaluate, and quantify overpressure scenarios (fire, blocked outlet, utility failure, thermal expansion) for process equipment and pressure vessels.


• PSV & PRD Calculation Design: Perform sizing, selection, and specification of pressure safety valves, rupture discs, and conservation vents using standard industry software (e.g., IPRSM, Visual Flow, FlareNet, Aspen Plus, HYSYS).


• Flare & Vent Header Evaluation: Conduct backpressure analysis, line sizing, depressurization studies, and hydraulic capacity verifications for flare header systems and vent networks.


• EPC Project Execution: Support capital engineering projects from front-end engineering design (FEED) through detailed EPC execution, ensuring timely delivery of process safety engineering packages.


• Field Verification & Walkdowns: Execute field walkdowns at refinery and petrochemical job sites to verify as-built piping configurations, inlet/outlet pressure drops, and relief valve installations.


• Design Basis & Documentation: Prepare technical deliverables, including PSV design packages, MOC (Management of Change) documentation, inlet/outlet line pressure drop calculations, and Asset Register updates.


• Regulatory & Code Compliance: Ensure all pressure-relieving systems conform to API 520, API 521, API 2000, ASME Section I & VIII, and OSHA 1910.119 (PSM) standards.


• Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Work closely with Piping, Process, Instrumentation, and Client Plant Safety teams to resolve technical queries, action items from PHAs/HAZOPs, and P&ID redlines.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.


• Experience: 10 years of process safety or mechanical engineering experience working in an EPC environment on oil & gas, refining, or petrochemical projects.


• Technical Standards: Strong working knowledge of API 520, API 521, API 2000, ASME Section I & VIII, and TEMA.


• Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with IPRSM process simulation software is needed. Experience with Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, FlareNet, or equivalent relief calculation software will be considered.


• P&ID & Drawing Literacy: Advanced ability to read and interpret P&IDs, PFDs, Isometrics, Equipment Datasheets, and Plot Plans.


• TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card for access to local refineries and chemical facilities in the Deer Park area.

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas is a plus.


• Experience supporting local plant turnarounds, debottlenecking projects, or revalidation programs in the Houston Ship Channel area.
