Job summary

The University of Utah offers a PS Nurse Practitioner fellowship created in 2025 to prepare APPs for critical and acute care medicine. You will work within a supportive environment with autonomy while caring for medically complex patients.

The program spans Medical ICU and Huntsman ICU, with strong interprofessional collaboration, a robust didactic curriculum, and opportunities to learn from experienced APPs, physicians, pharmacists, nurses and staff.

Qualifications

• Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
• Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS (preferred).
• Utah State prescriptive privileges (preferred).
• Licensure via Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent and national certification.

Responsibilities

• Clinical fellowship with rotations across Medical ICU, Heme/Onc ICU, Cardiothoracic Critical Care, Neurocritical Care, Anesthesia, Interventional Pulmonology, Hematology/Oncology, Nephrology, Palliative Care, Infectious Disease and Hospital Medicine.
• Participate in both clinical and didactic curricula and credentialing processes.
• Adhere to hospital and CDC vaccination requirements and complete credentialing/privileging at hire.

Job Summary

Created in 2025, this Fellowship provides foundational training to prepare APPs for a career in critical and acute care medicine. The fellows participate in a year‑long program in a supportive environment with ample autonomy, while caring for medically complex and critically ill patients. The program includes a diverse realm of clinical rotations, a robust didactic curriculum and opportunities to learn from skilled APPs, physicians, clinical pharmacists, nurses and other support staff. The fellowship is within the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine with a focus on medical critical care. The bulk of time is spent in the Medical ICU and Huntsman ICU (Heme/Onc). Our team consists of 22 APPs with varying experience levels who work alongside Intensivist Physicians.

• Procedural and skills‑based workshops to be assigned
• Additional opportunities: Weekly Physician Fellows conference, Weekly Pulmonary Grand Rounds, Daily informal MICU teaching

Minimum Qualifications

Required

Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.

Preferred

Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.

UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non‑physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

This position is patient‑sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
