Qualifications

• Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Utah.
• ACLS, BLS, NRP, ATLS may be required by department or privileging criteria.
• Utah prescriptive privileges; national certification after a nationally accredited exam.
• Licensure obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent and national certification.
• Credentialing/privileging process at hire per UHPPM 1-56.
• Immunizations per CDC standards; exemptions limited.

• Order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests for acute and primary care conditions.

Job Summary

The University of Utah College of Nursing’s Practice and Community Collaboration division is seeking a nurse practitioner to deliver comprehensive healthcare at the Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS) Washington County Youth Center — a rural clinic serving medically underserved and historically overlooked populations.

This position is primarily in-person at the Washington County Youth Center, with opportunities to expand your role through telehealth coverage at other JJYS locations across the state. Most clinics operate Monday through Friday during daytime hours. JJYS medical clinics run 5–7 days per week, with providers scheduled on weekdays; compensated evening and weekend call opportunities may become available over time.

Essential Functions

• Perform a comprehensive physical examination to identify normal and abnormal changes associated with health, injury and disease states.
• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic procedures and tests as indicated by the history and physical examination for acute and common primary care conditions.
• Develop differential diagnoses based on clinical and laboratory data.
• Differentiate common primary care problems and other deviations from normal. Recognize emergency situations and initiate emergency care/triage.
• Provide for general health needs of patients, including health promotion, maintenance, and restoration. Initiate health promotion and disease prevention strategies considering age, development, disability, culture, ethnicity, and sexual orientation.
• Provide individualized client teaching and counseling regarding current identified problems, disease states, and social/cultural situations.
• Comply with medical records policies for complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiate and maintain required records and legal documents.
• Participate in quality improvement activities.
• Function as a preceptor for undergraduate and graduate students.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Required: Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of Utah.
• Preferred: Certification in ACLS, BLS, NRP, ATLS may be required by your department or privileging criteria. Utah state prescriptive privileges. Licensure obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent and national certification after a nationally accredited examination. UHPPM 1-56 requires newly hired non-physician providers to apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire. This position is patient-sensitive and requires immunizations according to CDC standards and hospital policy, with limited exemptions for medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
